The brief was to draw Gopashtami as the seva it actually is rather than a single darshan, so the registers carry the work: a cowherd offering grass to Shrinathji at the top, then rows of cows being garlanded and adorned, then calves fed and cows milked below. We let the cows be the heroes — this is, after all, their festival — and kept each register clean so the care reads clearly rather than as a crowd. The deep maroon ground gives the white cows a festival glow, and the lotus pond closes the sheet with the temple's kamal-talai. It is Pushtimarg go-seva made into a calendar day, the cow honoured as the heart of the tradition the Nathdwara haveli serves.
