The brief was to translate the modern dawn dairy run into pichwai without losing the cow at its heart, so we used the tradition's horizontal cow-register and simply stacked the morning: Krishna and his herd up top, women filling cans next, the co-operative collection stall with its rows of steel cans below, then calves and a lotus pond. We kept each band clean and readable rather than packing the canvas, because pichwai's strength is the calm row, not the crowd. The steel milk cans are the one frank modern note — left silver-grey and flat — to make the point that the milk economy is just go-seva continued. The cream ground holds that pale first-light hour when the cans actually go out.
