The brief was the gentlest of the cow themes: not darshan, not festival, just gau charan — the act of taking the cows out to graze — with Krishna as Venugopala, the flute-playing herdsman, at its centre. We kept him cross-legged and calm on an open green meadow, ringed by grazing cows rather than a worshipping crowd, and bracketed the scene with plain cow-rows above and below so the whole sheet breathes like a pasture. The cream ground gives it daylight, and the single lotus-pond band keeps the water Krishna's herd would have drunk from. This is Pushtimarg vatsalya at its most pastoral, the cow as the heart of the devotion the Nathdwara haveli is built around.
