The brief was the Vidya-chowki as a ruled learning grid rather than a busy mandala: a lotus medallion at the heart, a square grid around it holding conches at the corners and rosettes on the sides, and a swastika to anchor each outer corner. We held the fill near half so the geru ground reads inside the cells and around the medallion, the way a learning seat looks drawn fresh on a swept floor. In Kumaon the vidya-chowki is the seat for study and the goddess of learning — a sibling of the Saraswati-chowki — and the grid itself stands for ordered knowledge, with the conch sounded at worship and the lotus for purity. The fourfold grid is the rite's structure, not decoration. White biswar on geru, no third colour.
