The brief was the mangal chowki as a calm fourfold seat rather than a packed grid: a swastika in a lotus rosette at the centre, one lotus per quadrant, rosette roundels on the axes, and a swastika anchoring each corner. We held the fill near half so the geru ground reads inside the grid cells and around the lotuses, the way a freshly drawn auspicious seat looks before a rite begins. In Kumaon the mangal chowki is the everyday welcome diagram — the swastika for wellbeing and the lotus for purity, drawn at thresholds and on ceremony floors to make a space auspicious. The fourfold-rotational symmetry is the rite's order, not decoration. White biswar on geru, no third colour.
