The brief was the parikrama rather than the lift: the act of circling Mount Govardhan on foot, which pilgrims still do, with the cattle that the hill once sheltered walking alongside. We placed the green hill at the top with its little shrines and laid the pilgrims and cows in procession-registers below, a small flute Krishna anchoring the centre so the devotion keeps its source. The processions move horizontally so the whole sheet reads as a circuit, and the lotus pond closes it with the temple's water. The cream ground gives it pilgrim daylight. It is Govardhan honoured not as spectacle but as a walk — the hill that fed the herds, circled in gratitude in the Pushtimarg way.
