The brief was the Kotah-Bundi specialty: the tiger hunt through dense jungle, the genre that atelier is most famous for, caught at full chase. Bundi and its sister Kotah workshops loved tangled green foliage and dramatic hunting action, so the composition rides a single strong diagonal — lead noble, lance-raising companion, third rider, the bounding tiger and the fleeing deer all swept along the same line. The discipline was to let the foliage be dense without becoming a muddle: flat masses of malachite and olive green, a winding lapis river and a kiosk to open the upper right, so the eye can still follow the chase. Nothing is shaded; the drama comes from the diagonal and the colour, not from rendered depth.
