The brief was a Bundi botanical panel at its most distilled: a single peacock in a blossoming tree, nothing competing with it. Bundi ateliers were famous for lush gardens and birds among blossom, so the school's instinct is to crowd — and the discipline here was to resist that, giving the bird an open cream ground to breathe in while keeping only the companions that belong: a few green parakeets, two bees, a lotus pond below. The fanned train is drawn as a flat arc of eye-spots rather than rendered feathers, the champa blossoms scattered with a light hand, so the panel reads as one clear subject in a real grove. The little domed kiosk and cypresses at the back set it in a garden without pulling focus from the peacock.
