The brief was to let Kangra do what it does best — tender naturalism, water birds, soft green hills — and to organise it as a twin-register so the eye reads the pond twice, once above and once below, like a couplet. The Pahari schools loved lotus ponds alive with wading cranes and ducks, so the cast is mostly birds and a few quiet ladies rather than a busy court. We kept each register breathable: a kiosk to one side, standing figures to the other, and the broad water left open for lotus pads and dragonflies. The pink lotus border isn't decoration for its own sake — it carries the same bloom that fills both ponds, so the frame and the picture rhyme.
