One flute, and the whole riverbank stops what it is doing to listen — cows, peacock, swans and all.

The brief was the pull of the flute: Krishna's murali by the Yamuna is the gentlest of the Krishna-lila scenes, the moment his music gathers the herd and the heart, and the picture has to make that listening visible. Bundi was the right school because its ateliers built lush riverside groves better than anyone, with green water and dense blossom kept under control. So Krishna stands in the classic three-bend tribhanga pose under a flowering tree at the left, the cows turned toward him at the right with a calf below and a peacock fanning at his feet, while the green Yamuna winds behind with swans and a far pavilion. The blue of his body and the orange blossom are the two strong notes; the malachite grove keeps everything else calm. We let the herd be small and clearly turned to him, so the music reads in the way the animals lean, not in any busyness.

  • Natural-oak frame on a warm-white or pale-green wall lets the malachite grove and lapis Krishna read warm
  • Hang in a puja-adjacent nook or living room where a devotional Krishna scene suits the room
  • Pairs with krishna-radha-kunj, krishna-raas-circle and krishna-govardhan-lift for a Krishna-lila grouping
  • Keep clear of strong green walls — the malachite grove wants a neutral backdrop
  • Black frame sharpens the blue figure and dense floral border for a more graphic hang
