The brief was to centre the pair of birds and let everything else hang from them: a lotus arch overhead, pendant ornaments swinging between, and a single big lotus below to ground the scene — no crowded aviary. We held the fill to roughly half so the geru ground reads as open courtyard between the motifs. Ghughuti is the Kumaoni name for Makar Sankranti, when families fry little flour birds and sweets and string them into garlands children wear and feed to crows at dawn — so the paired birds here are the festival itself, facing each other in the old auspicious mirror. The swastikas and the lower lotus are the everyday Aipan blessing-marks; the pendants stand in for the strung ornaments. White biswar on geru, no third colour.
