The translation problem turned out to be a gift: garba is a dance that circles a central lamp, and Pithora is a tradition that puts the sacred thing at the centre, so the garbo pillar simply took the place a deity would hold. A centred-circle layout let the women turn around it in a flat-coloured ring of swirling skirts and raised dandiya, the dance reading instantly from the geometry. The strings of festival bulbs overhead became a folk dot-and-dash garland rather than a photographed light-rope, keeping the night festive without breaking the grammar.
