The brief was the most lyrical Krishna there is: not a battle or a theft but the cowherd simply playing, and the world leaning in to listen. Central-deity composition holds Krishna at the heart in the classic tribhanga triple bend, flute to his lips under a flowering kadamba, so the whole picture organises around the music. We turned two white cows toward him from either side and set a calf and a peacock at the lower corners, each creature drawn to the flute — because in the Venugopala the sound is the real subject and the listeners prove it. The cream ground stays open so the figure and the kadamba read clean. It is Krishna leela at its gentlest.
