Gods and demons on a single rope for once — the ocean churned with a mountain, a turtle holding it all up from below.

The brief was the great cooperative-yet-rival episode of the cosmos, the Samudra Manthana, and it almost demands the murals' twin-flank-mirror grammar. So the panel is built on a central churning axis: Mount Mandara as a tall ochre cone, the serpent Vasuki wound round it as the churning rope, and Kurma the turtle beneath as the pivot that keeps the mountain from sinking. The colour code does the storytelling — green-bodied devas pull the tail on the left, red-bodied asuras the hooded head on the right, the guna palette making allegiance legible at a glance. Above, a green Dhanvantari rises from the clouds with the round pot of amrita, the prize the whole effort is for, a red sun-disc behind him. The sea is a flat band of white-and-green scrolling waves, and the medium-light density keeps the ochre ground open so the mountain reads as the clear vertical spine of the image.

  • Natural-oak frame on a warm-white wall keeps the ochre mountain and green-red teams balanced
  • Hang in a living room or study where a guest can step in and read the story
  • Pairs with dashavatara-panel or vishnu-anantashayana from the same collection
  • Sits well beside vamana-trivikrama or narasimha-fierce for a Vishnu-narrative wall
  • Avoid a busy patterned wall — the symmetrical composition wants a plain ground around it
