The brief was the great reclining icon of Kerala, the Anantashayana enshrined at Padmanabhaswamy, and it asks the murals' reclining-horizontal grammar rather than the usual upright one. So the green-bodied Vishnu lies along the panel on the thick coils of Ananta, the world-serpent, whose multi-hooded canopy lifts at the upper left to shelter his head, a flame halo behind it. He rests his head on one hand in the yoganidra, the cosmic sleep between dissolutions, and from his navel a red lotus stalk curls up bearing Brahma — creation budding from the resting preserver, the whole cosmology held in one calm image. Lakshmi sits in red at his feet, attending him, and the serpent floats on a band of green-and-white cosmic waves. The green body is the murals' sattvic register for serene divinity, and the medium-light density keeps the deep brick-red ground open so the long reclining figure reads cleanly across the panel.

  • Natural-oak frame on a warm-white wall lets the deep red ground and green deity hold their calm
  • Hang above a bed or sofa where the reclining horizontal composition fits a wide space
  • Pairs with vishnu-garuda or vamana-trivikrama as a Vishnu-forms trio
  • Sits well beside narasimha-fierce or samudra-manthana for a Vishnu-cosmology wall
  • Avoid a strong red wall — choose neutral or pale so the brick-red ground reads true
