Kitung Ikon Saura Art Print — classical Lanjia Saura ancestor shrine · enthroned Kitung deity in an arched niche · white on deep maroon · framed A2 · Rayagada, southern Odisha · collector edition of 500

Kitung gets the niche, the trident, and the dead-centre axis — everyone else dances around him, which is rather the point of an ancestor.

DESIGN BRIEF: the brief was to build a true ancestor ikon — a shrine, not décor — around Kitung, the Saura creator-deity, and to give him the calm authority the centre demands. We chose the ritual-ikon-frame symmetry so an arched niche pins the larger Kitung figure on the vertical axis with his trident, and let the dancers, drummers, horses and elephant orbit him in unhurried registers. The fill stays medium-light on purpose, with an open fish-net frame rather than the packed mesh that imitations cram in, so the deep-maroon ground breathes and the rounded faceless figures stay legible. We refused faces, refused colour, refused perspective depth; a tree of life rises straight under the niche the way real Lanjia Saura inner walls grow life from the shrine, and sun, moon, deer and cow close the panel the way they do in the Rayagada hills.

  • Natural-oak frame on cream or terracotta walls — the warm white line and maroon ground read true without yellowing
  • Hang at eye level in a puja nook or study where the arched niche can anchor the wall
  • Pair with idital-house-ikon or anishum-ancestor-icon for an ancestor-shrine trio
  • Black frame sharpens the rice-paste line in a darker, wood-furnished room
  • Stack with disease-ward-ikon and marriage-ikon-panel for a ritual-ikon set
  • Keep adjacent decor quiet — the monochrome niche reads best against calm walls
