Kewda Harvest Saura Art Print — contemporary Lanjia Saura fusion · screwpine cutting and basket-carrying registers · white on deep maroon · framed A2 · Rayagada hills, southern Odisha · collector edition of 500

Screwpine doesn't grow in straight lines, but Saura cuts it that way — every frond a ray of rice paste, every harvester bent to the blade.

DESIGN BRIEF: the brief was to put a real hill livelihood — kewda screwpine cutting — into Saura line without faking a ritual ikon. We chose the harvest-field-rows symmetry so the work stacks in honest registers the way a hillside terraces, and held the fill to medium-light so the deep-maroon ground stays visible between every band of plants. The screwpine clumps are the hero: drawn as spiky fans of straight rice-paste strokes, they let the rounded faceless harvesters read instantly — bent knees, curved cutting blades, bundles carried overhead, conical baskets filling up. We refused a packed mesh, refused faces, refused any machinery or signage; the labour speaks through posture alone. A top band carries the customary horse, elephant and sun-and-moon the way real Lanjia Saura walls open, and a tree of life with deer, peacocks and a cow closes the panel at the foot.

  • Natural-oak frame on cream or terracotta walls — the warm white line and maroon ground sit comfortably without yellowing
  • Hang at eye level near a dining or kitchen wall where a working-land scene belongs
  • Pair with paddy-harvest-field or threshing-floor from this Saura collection for a three-panel harvest wall
  • Black frame sharpens the rice-paste line in a room with dark wood furniture
  • Stack A3 beside palm-tapper-tree and toddy-tapping-palm for a livelihood trio at desk height
  • Keep adjacent decor muted — the panel is monochrome and reads best against quiet walls
