The brief was the monsoon mood handled with restraint: two peacocks fanned in mirrored display, a rain-cloud band overhead, and a small Krishna on a lotus presiding rather than dominating. We mirrored the birds and the seated gopis across a vertical axis so the picture reads as a settled, balanced field, then kept the cream breathing between the fanned tails so the eye-spots stay legible instead of merging into a mass. Peacock-dance pichwais belong to the rains — the birds calling and displaying as the monsoon breaks is one of the great seasonal cloths hung behind the deity. The fanned tails are flat bilva-green with vivid-yellow eyes, never shaded; the rain is drawn as fine straight lines, not a gradient. Krishna and the cows tie the secular peacock scene back to Braj.

  • Natural-oak frame on cream or sage walls keeps the green fanned tails and yellow eye-spots true
  • Hang at eye level above a bed or sofa so the mirrored peacocks centre the wall
  • Pairs naturally with mayur-peacock-pair and varsha-monsoon-grove for a monsoon trio
  • Avoid hanging beside hot-orange decor that competes with the cool green tails
  • Set beside lotus-peacock-pond for a peacock-and-lotus grouping
