Kerala Rubber Tapper Plantation Kerala Mural Art Print — a tapper scoring a rubber tree at dawn in panchavarna bhitti-chitra style · collector edition A2

The quietest job in Kerala, done before the heat — one spiral cut, one white thread of latex, one coconut-shell cup.

The brief was a modern crop in an old grammar: rubber only reached Kerala in colonial times, so rather than date the scene, the print renders the work itself. The tapper stands centre at his tree, one hand against the brown trunk, the other drawing the knife along the diagonal spiral cut, the white latex running down into a coconut-shell cup tied to the bark — all flat, readable shapes in the mural manner. Tapping is a dawn job, done before the sun thickens the latex, so the one nod to the present is a small forehead headlamp, drawn as a plain flat disc, never a gadget gag. Two more tappers work their own trees among receding rows of slim rubber trunks, a tiled house at the plantation's edge, and the lead figure is given the dominant scale of a mural icon. The medium-light density lets the ochre ground and green undergrowth breathe between the trunks.

  • Natural-oak frame on a warm-white wall keeps the rubber-brown and plantation green warm
  • Hang in a study or living room where a specific livelihood scene anchors the wall
  • Pairs with tea-pickers-munnar or toddy-tapper-palm for a Kerala plantation trio
  • Sits well beside paddy-harvest-kuttanad for a land-and-labour wall
  • Avoid a busy patterned wall — the plantation rows want a plain ground around them
