The brief was to paint the kasavu handloom, which is a real composition problem because a loom is a frame of beams and warp threads that flat mural line can scramble into a grid. The fix was to read the loom as one strong frontal block with the white cloth and its gold border flowing clearly out of it, the weaver centred and two women feeding thread from either side in the devotional flanking grammar. The weaver and women are kept in honest ochre-gold skin rather than the deity-green, because this is craft, not icon, and the famous gold kasavu border is painted as flat yellow-ochre pigment, never a metallic shine, holding to the tradition's no-gilding rule. We kept the density medium-light, with a yarn basket and clay pot at the base and the warm ochre ground open behind.
