The brief was to render the heart of Jayadeva's Gita Govinda — Krishna and Radha in the forest bower — as one calm, legible pair rather than the crowded grove these scenes often become. So we set a single flowering tree at the centre, placed blue Krishna in tribhanga with his flute on one side and Radha holding a lotus on the other, and let a seated sakhi link them between. The deer and the peacock at their feet are the bower itself, drawn flat and quiet. We refused the dense surround of gopis and creepers; the open cream ground lets the two figures breathe and the love-song read at a glance. It is the founding Odia devotional poem, drawn with the restraint of the temple line — Jayadeva, after all, was an Odia poet.
