The brief was to paint a working coastal harbour at the moment the catch lands, and to keep both the labour and the line honest. So the net became a flat sagging mesh full of conch-white fish, hauled by two fishermen on the jetty, with flag-topped trawlers reduced to flat geru-and-green hulls behind on a sea of white wave scrolls. We split the picture into two registers — the haul above, the sorting below — the way a classical scroll stacks a sequence, so the fishwives kneeling over their baskets get their own clear band rather than being lost in the crowd. A folk sun and a pair of gulls lift the harbour into the tradition's vocabulary. The deep red ground gives the dawn its warmth: a fishing morning drawn with the weight of the temple line.

  • Natural-oak or black frame on cream or warm-white walls lets the deep hingula-red ground read as a confident focal point
  • Hang at eye level in a kitchen or dining room where the haul-and-sort registers read top to bottom
  • Pairs with chilika-fishermen-dolphins, ferry-river-crossing or monsoon-vegetable-market for a water-and-market fusion wall
  • Keep adjacent decor cool so the red ground stays dominant
  • Group three water-and-food fusion scenes at A3 for a coastal triptych
