In Mithila Kohbar painting — the ritual murals painted on the walls of the nuptial chamber (kohbar ghar) during Maithili weddings — bamboo groves carry explicit male fertility symbolism. Maithili treats bamboo (baans) as masculine: it multiplies quickly, stands in dense clumps, and visually encodes the groom's patrilineage (bans, lineage — a near-homophone artists exploit deliberately). Pioneer 11 was the first human-made object to fly past Saturn, arriving 1 September 1979 after using Jupiter's gravity to reshape its solar-system trajectory. The mission discovered Saturn's F ring and provided the first close measurements of the planet's magnetosphere and ring structure.
