The De Tomaso Mangusta was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro (then at Ghia) and is widely cited as one of his most original automotive compositions. De Tomaso produced 401 Mangustas from 1967 to 1971. The De Tomaso Pantera was designed by Tom Tjaarda of Ghia and debuted at the 1970 New York Auto Show. It was marketed through Ford's Lincoln-Mercury dealer network in North America from 1971 and became notable for being owned by Elvis Presley, who famously shot his Pantera on at least one occasion.
