The model traces directly to Colin Chapman's 1957 Lotus Seven and remains in production with broadly unchanged proportions, making it the longest continuously manufactured sports car in the UK. The SM won the 1971 European Car of the Year and was purchased by the likes of Georges Pompidou, whose SM served as the French presidential car.
