Kalighat's babu satire was never one-sided, and this is the patuas' best comeback: the straying, idle husband on his knees while the wronged wife brings the household jharu down on him. We staged it as a steep diagonal sweep so the broom arcs from her upraised hands toward his bowed head, and we added the flying slipper — a real Kalighat motif — to upper-right with little motion strokes for the second blow already in transit. Her brick-red sari over a black blouse gives her furious authority; the babu sinks in ash-grey with one pleading palm. The ground stays plain so the whole comedy is the swing and the cower. Boneless shading rounds her raised arm and his huddled back — affectionate, but she has clearly won.
