Swift Poster — 2004 Delta II GRB Hunter NASA Heritage Collector Print

A BAT coded aperture and a GRB streak bright enough to rewrite every afterglow textbook — Swift earns rank-eighty-six arch drama because arcminute localization within seconds turned gamma-ray bursts from mysteries into addressable physics.

Rank 86 celebrates Swift — the 1,470 kg Goddard/Penn State observatory engineered to hunt gamma-ray bursts with the speed its name promises. Delta II 7320 placed Swift in a 600 km, 22° orbit on 20 November 2004; the Burst Alert Telescope (BAT), X-Ray Telescope (XRT), and Ultraviolet/Optical Telescope (UVOT) trio localizes bursts to arcminutes within seconds, enabling ground observatories to capture afterglows before they fade. Neil Gehrels and John Nousek led the mission that confirmed long GRBs originate from core-collapse supernovae and linked short GRBs to neutron star mergers — foreshadowing the 2017 gravitational-wave event GW170817. With more than 1,000 GRBs detected and UVOT afterglows captured within 60 seconds of trigger, Swift remains the burst community's rapid-response sentinel. Wallimilist renders the slewing Swift hero, gold arch frame, GRB streak, and monumental SWIFT title exactly as the master PNG dictates.

  • Black frame on warm white walls — gold arch and navy SWIFT type stay true without overpowering neutral upholstery
  • Pair with Fermi Gamma-ray or Compton GRO at matching A2 for gamma-ray mission lineage from Great Observatory to burst hunter
  • Hang above a media-room sofa at eye level; the GRB streak and BAT aperture read best with half a metre stand-off
  • Natural-oak frame suits study walls where stone paper echoes wood beside physics textbooks
  • Stack A3 beside Neil Gehrels-era missions Fermi and Compton for one PI's high-energy arc
  • Avoid competing saturated gold decor directly beside the arch if you want GRB streak contrast to stay accurate
