DESIGN BRIEF: the seven sacred horses are the heart of any Pithora wall, so we drew them few and large in a single horse-row rather than burying them in a packed register — at medium-light density each crowned rider stays legible from across a room. A celestial band of sun and moon caps the composition the way a Lakhara opens the sacred wall with the lights of the sky; beneath the mounts we let a calm strip of cattle and deer breathe before the lower wall fills with daily life. Among the Rathwa of Chhota Udepur the horse is the vehicle that carries the deities onto the inner wall of the home, vowed to Babo Pithoro in thanksgiving, so the horses earn the size and the colour we gave them. The dancing ring of women and the bowman at the base ground the gods in the ordinary world they are asked to bless.

  • Natural-oak frame on cream or warm-white walls keeps the limewash ground glowing and the vermilion horses true
  • Hang at eye level where the horse row reads left-to-right toward a doorway — the procession already moves that way
  • Pairs with indi-raja-procession and ganadev-elephant-horse for a three-print horse-procession wall
  • Stack beside three-zone-cosmos so the sky-band motifs echo across two frames
  • Black frame echoes the confident outline when the room already has dark wood
