Laundry day versus the langurs — one woman, one broom, and a troop with very different plans for the clothesline.

This fusion turns the most universal Indian rooftop comedy — monkeys raiding the terrace while someone defends the washing — into Gond line. The water tanks were the test: a moulded plastic tank can't enter the grammar as-is, so they become dotted folk drums banded with scale-rows and teardrops, instantly readable as tanks. The monkeys carry the scene, their fur drawn as fine dot-rows, tails curling into the composition's rhythm, each one caught mid-mischief — perched on a lid, tugging a cloth, scaling a ladder. The woman with her broom and fruit-bowl anchors the lower-left so the story has a hero, and the drying clothes give the clothesline its dot-and-dash texture. Keeping it medium-light meant letting the dark blue sky breathe above the roofline rather than packing the whole frame — the chaos reads better with air around it.

  • Midnight-blue ground sits well on warm-white, clay or pale grey walls — let the dark sky breathe above the rooftop
  • Pair with rooftop-pigeons-tanks or kite-flying-terrace at matching A2 for a terrace-life set
  • Natural-oak frame warms the orange monkeys and magenta sari; black frame echoes the lampblack outline and the dark ground
  • Hang at eye level in a kitchen-dining, family room or child's room where the rooftop comedy fits the mood
