We briefed this as the most universal of Kolkata street comedies translated into Kalighat's caricature language: the glutton who orders 'just one more' until the seller runs out of water. The whole picture is a study in opposites — a vastly overfed customer at the left, cheeks ballooned and a sal-leaf plate of phuchka in one hand while the other reaches greedily out, against a wiry, patient phuchka-wallah at the right who ladles tamarind water from a terracotta clay pot balanced at his hip. We composed them as a facing-pair so the appetite and the patience meet across an empty centre, and let the seller's indigo-checked head-tie and the warm terracotta pot carry the only saturated colour against the customer's plain white. The boneless shading does the heavy lifting, rounding the glutton's belly until he reads as pure want. No cart sign, no brand, no price board — the satire is the two bodies and the clay pot between them.

  • Natural-oak frame on a warm-white wall keeps the terracotta pot and indigo head-tie reading true
  • Hang in a kitchen or dining room where the phuchka comedy will land with anyone who has lost count
  • Pairs with fishwife-basket or saree-shop-haggle for a wall of Kolkata street scenes
  • Give the empty paper room to breathe — the calm cream ground is part of the Kalighat look
  • Black frame echoes the lampblack contour in a room with dark wood furniture
