Introduced at the 1953 New York Motor Show, the Packard Caribbean was the marque's attempt to recapture prestige leadership with a hand-detailed convertible built on a separate chassis from the standard line. The 327 cubic-inch L-head V8 driving Packard's Ultramatic automatic transmission produced 185 bhp, while a 127-inch wheelbase and 218-inch body length gave the Caribbean proportions that no other American luxury car matched in 1953–1955.
