NuSTAR Poster — 2012 Pegasus XL Hard X-Ray NASA Heritage Collector Print

A ten-metre mast and nested shells sharp enough to resolve titanium in a dead star — NuSTAR earns rank-eighty-seven truss drama because focusing hard X-rays was supposed to be impossible until Caltech proved otherwise.

Rank 87 documents NuSTAR — the Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array that became the first mission to focus hard X-rays between 3 and 79 keV when Pegasus XL air-launched it from Kwajalein Atoll on 13 June 2012. The 350 kg JPL/Caltech observatory deploys a 10 m extendable mast ten days after launch, separating nested shell optics from detectors to achieve 18 arcsecond angular resolution — sharp enough to map titanium and iron synthesis in Cassiopeia A's supernova remnant. Fiona Harrison, the mission's PI, and project manager Yunjin Kim overcame decades of skepticism that grazing-incidence optics could work at these energies. NuSTAR has since observed black hole coronae, blazar jets, and the Sun's active regions, extending into the 2020s under extended mission status. Wallimilist renders the extended mast hero, Cas A remnant ring stipple, and monumental NUSTAR title exactly as the master PNG dictates.

  • Black frame on warm white walls — golden Cas A ring and navy NUSTAR type stay true without overpowering neutral upholstery
  • Pair with Chandra X-ray or Fermi Gamma-ray at matching A2 for electromagnetic spectrum progression
  • Hang above a credenza at eye level; the 10 m mast and nested shell apertures read best with half a metre stand-off
  • Natural-oak frame suits study walls where stone paper echoes wood beside astronomy bookshelves
  • Stack A3 beside IXPE for X-ray polarization successor context
  • Avoid competing saturated orange decor directly beside the remnant ring if you want Cas A stipple to stay accurate
