The brief was the most rapt evening Udaipur can offer — a kathak recital by the lake — framed the way Mewar painters framed a palace-terrace performance. It works because the grammar is already there: a raised lamplit stage under a cusped arch, the dancer at the centre, musicians to one side, the lake palace behind. We split the page into two registers so the seated public reads clearly below the stage, kept the dancer's spin as the single focus, and let the diyas and the open lake view carry the evening mood. The malachite-green choli is the cool note against the warm vermillion arch and ochre-gold stage; everything that would crowd a lesser scene has been pared back to dancer, two musicians and a calm, attentive crowd.
