The deity band above keeps the heavens in view and the row of village homes below grounds the rite in a real settlement; the spacing lets the drummers, the flanking white horses and the two processions of women each stay legible. Among the Rathwa of Chhota Udepur the marriage of Pithoro is what the wall is painted to celebrate, so giving the canopy this much room is faithful to the iconography. The beaded swags and the seated barrel-drummer are the details that reward a closer look.
