Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter Poster — 2006 HiRISE NASA Heritage Collector Print

Thirty-centimetre pixels from polar orbit, a parachute caught mid-descent, and a relay antenna keeping rovers talking — MRO proves one orbiter can scout landing sites, photograph avalanches, and still operate decades after the catalog date stamp.

Rank 48 in NASA Heritage Collector documents Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter as the Scout-program reconnaissance platform that redefined how humanity sees the Red Planet. Launched on Atlas V 401 on 12 August 2005 and entering Mars orbit in March 2006, the 2,031 kg JPL spacecraft carries HiRISE — capable of resolving surface features at roughly thirty centimetres per pixel from 250 km altitude — alongside SHARAD subsurface radar and CRISM mineral mapping. MRO relayed communications for Spirit, Opportunity, Phoenix, and later rover fleets while capturing iconic images including Curiosity's parachute descent and seasonal avalanches on polar scarps. Still operating beyond its primary mission, MRO remains the sharp eye that landing teams trust before committing a billion-dollar rover to a touchdown ellipse. Wallimilist renders solar-wing orbiter, HiRISE swath beam, and parachute descent inset exactly as the master PNG dictates.

Mars Odyssey

$49

  • Black frame on warm white walls — rust Martian tones stay balanced without overpowering neutral upholstery
  • Pair with Phoenix Mars or Curiosity MSL at matching A2 for Mars surface mission grid
  • Hang above a credenza at eye level; the HiRISE swath and parachute inset reward wide-wall A1 placement
  • Natural-oak frame suits study rooms where cream paper echoes wood beside Mars geology bookshelves
  • Stack A3 beside Mars Odyssey or MAVEN for orbital Mars chronology
  • Avoid competing saturated rust wall paint directly behind the Martian plain if palette accuracy matters
