DESIGN BRIEF: this is the rare entry that turns the camera on the maker — the Lakhara priest-painter at the centre, brush raised to the red horse he is bringing onto the wall, his bowls of vermilion, green and turmeric beside him and the ground offerings laid before the work. We kept it medium-light so the act of painting reads as the clear subject, with a helper mixing colour and a drummer keeping the rite's rhythm nearby. Among the Rathwa of Chhota Udepur only the Lakhara, also called the Gor, may execute the sacred wall, working to the chants of the badva diviner and offering the finished horses to Babo Pithoro. Picturing the painter, his pigments and his offerings is a quiet act of respect — a print that names where the tradition comes from.

  • Natural-oak frame on cream or warm-white walls keeps the painter and pigment bowls warm and clear
  • Hang in a study, studio or craft-minded room where the act of making is the point
  • Pairs with bhopa-narration and gor-painting-the-wall for a maker-and-rite trio
  • Stack beside seven-horse-procession so the painted horse answers the procession
  • Black frame echoes the confident outline when the room has dark wood
