The brief was the Kishangarh ideal in love: this school perfected the long arched eye and fish-curved brow, and its highest subject is Krishna and Radha drawn with that same refined profile, meeting in a flowering bower. So the lovers stand close at the centre, Krishna blue with his flute and Radha in vermillion with a lotus, both in the famous profile, while a small attentive cast — a veena player, attendants with trays — is kept to the corners. Kishangarh's cool naturalism gives the garden a real moonlit night: a blossom tree, dark cypresses, a lapis sky with a full moon and a swan, a lotus pond at the foot.
