We briefed this as a Khovar animal-medallion built around one object: the cast Dokra brass bell that the lead bullock wears so its owner can find the herd among the sal. The bell is the contemporary anchor, so we put the bullock front-on inside a roundel with the herder's hand on its horn — the relationship between man, animal and bell held in one calm circle. The hard part in two-tone Khovar is rendering metal without any sheen, so the bell is a flat kaolin shape with the lost-wax lattice scratched into it, sitting in exactly the same grammar as the animal's combed body. We let the corners stay quiet — flanking peacocks, corner deer, a horse and cow below — so the bell keeps the eye.
