We briefed this as a classical Kalighat devotional of Hara Gauri — Shiva and Parvati, among the most beloved divine pairs in Bengal. Shiva sits at the left, ash-grey-skinned with white sacred-ash stripes, a crescent moon set in his piled hair, a serpent and rudraksha at his neck and the trident held upright, every attribute placed the way the patuas placed them. Parvati leans toward him at the right, golden-skinned in a brick-red saree, a single lotus held in her hand and pearls and gold at her throat. Behind them the white bull Nandi rests its head over Shiva's shoulder, completing the family. We composed them as a tender facing-pair so the two glances meet at the centre, and held the palette to ash-grey, brick red and gold so the contrast of the ascetic and the bride reads at once. No mountain, no Kailash backdrop, no clutter — just the pair, the trident and Nandi, legible and calm.
