Cheriyal scroll painting comes from Cheriyal village in Telangana's Siddipet district, painted for generations by the Nakashi artist community on a signature red ground. Beyond the epics, the scrolls recorded trades and daily life — the kind of busy interior a balladeer could narrate person by person. Madhubani — Mithila painting from the Madhubani district and wider Mithila region of Bihar — traditionally adorned interior walls and floors during weddings, festivals, and seasonal rituals, with women artists using natural pigments (lamp black, geru ochre, indigo, turmeric, vermillion) and bamboo-tipped brushes. Kachni style emphasises fine line work and controlled hatching rather than the flat colour fills of Bharni; historically associated with intricate narrative and ceremonial restraint before colour was layered.
